UHMS 2005 meeting DIABETES & DIVING Post-Course

“Diabetes and Diving; Guidelines for the Future”. The Divers Alert Network (DAN) and the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) are jointly sponsoring this workshop on diabetes and diving. The workshop will review the current state of clinical diabetes knowledge, present the most recent data addressing diabetes and diving collected worldwide and propose and formulate guidelines for safe diving for those with diabetes. This workshop has separate registration from the main meeting and is open to non members.

The Faculty are from around the world and will present data from existing studies. Speakers to include: Chris Edge, Ole Hyldegaard, Dan Loeber, Neal Pollock, Steve Prosterman, Duke Scott, Alexis Tabah. The key note speaker on the current management in diabetes will be Dr. Eugenio Cersosimo from the Texas Diabetes Institute. Simon Mitchell will coordinate the afternoon discussion with the aim of producing workable guidelines for sport divers with diabetes by days end. The results will be published in workshop form in 2005.

Guy Dear, Neal Pollock and Donna Uguccioni will be resident Faculty for this workshop.

Both clinicians working in the field and those involved in training and management are invited to attend.
